Playlist

1. Franz Ferdinand - Walk Away
I don't care so much for their new single "Do You Want To" except for the the infectious line "lucky lucky you're so lucky". But this one is a real standout. I even got a tote bag with the CD. I'm a victim of "the culture industry". Also, I like these guys cos a) they're Scottish b) they're cool without trying to be c) they can write kickass tunes

2. Sheryl Crow - Letter to God
I still think her second album is her best. She's always been obsessed with 70s LA rock cliches and she's made some comments that I can't stand. But at least she's quite good at what she does (or her band is) and that is aping 70s bands. The new album seems so-so to me so far but this track stands out (actually a bit of a Neil Finn rip-off).

3. Fischerspooner - Never Win
Nostalgia of the 80s still works for me. As a kid I was very sensitive to the sound of the era (synths, early disco etc). So I have a special fondness for anything 80s. Puts a smile on my face. This track has some great guitar stuff by the great Mirwais.

4. Madonna - Hung Up (from what I've heard so far)
Sampling ABBA doesn't sound like a good idea to me and is, to me, a slightly risky move for Madge (considering her status if you know what I mean). But this track is infectious and I kinda miss the all-dancing all-singing Madonna. I guess I won't be expecting a super-dance-routine type video but there's still a whole album worth of material for that. I'm all psyched for this new single.

5. Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body
Someone told me my songs sounds like theirs. So went and checked them out and I understand the comparison and feel flattered too. This song is melodic and has a good energy that drives it. The lyrics are quite profound and it proves that a good melody really has a transcendental effect.
