Star Wars & Sin City

Today was cheap movie day. Thought some escapism might be fun today. So went to 2 movies.

Star Wars - after the previous 2 rather boring installments, wasn't sure what to expect. But Star Wars III turned out quite entertaining. I wasn't exactly expecting a realistic story so I could excuse the very bad dialogue, and the very wooden acting. Still, with that in mind, that Hayden guy who plays Anakin Skywalker manages to deliver some really unconvincing acting. He seems almost uncomfortable in his role. For a good part of the movie, he exemplifies "how not to act." But he does become watchable when he turns evil.

Sin City - the retro comicbook style is fun and cute. This movie is one big fantasy-fest for the stereotypical juvenile straight (white) male. Totally non-PC. Funny only if you're not easily offended.

Is this it?

What a cliché but I've been feeling like I'm at a crossroads. Read an article in Esquire (of all magazines) about a guy, who's just reached 35, who realizes that "this is it". How many people grew up dreaming about having a life different from others' have actually realized that dream? Don't most of us end up settling for the mortgage/marriage combo? Isn't that what most people call "the adult thing" to do? I don't blame people who go for the M&M Combo because it makes perfect sense to choose a path that many people have walked and proven safe. But I do wonder: is there something else on the McMenu of Life? Can I refuse what's on offer and walk out of that restaurant cos I'm not lovin' it! I'm pretty sure, despite appearances, that restaurant isn't all there is to life. I want to be able to buy my own ingredients and cook for myself.

Growing up I had dreams about what I want to be. Some dreams have died for various reasons, but there are others that are still living, breathing brainchildren of mine. That article was like a wake-up call. I'm 26 so what am I waiting for? I don't want to end up mulling over the what-ifs and could-have-beens.

Worst comes to worst, I'll have 9 years of experience to write an article for Esquire entitled "Trust me, this IS it."
